**Limited Gas Work Qualifications Expire Five Years After Issuance and Cannot Be Renewed or Reissued**
Holders of Limited Gas Work Qualifications must apply for a Full Gas Work Qualification to continue performing gas work in New York City after their qualifications expire, as Full Gas Work Qualifications do not have an expiration date.
According to NYC Administrative Code Section 28-423.1, gas work in New York City may only be conducted by:
- A Licensed Master Plumber (LMP); or
- An individual working under the direct and ongoing supervision of an LMP, provided they hold a Full Gas Work Qualification or a Limited Gas Work Qualification while under the direct oversight of someone with a Full Gas Work Qualification or an LMP.
**Steps to Obtain Full Gas Work Qualification:**
1. Review the Full Gas Work Qualification requirements on the Department’s Gas Work Qualification page. A minimum of five years of full-time experience performing gas work under the direct supervision of an LMP is required, including at least one year in New York City.
2. Schedule a Gas Work Qualification Examination by completing the LIC41: Written Examination Application form and selecting the Gas Work Qualification option. Accepted applicants will receive an email from the exam administrator within 2 to 3 weeks with instructions for scheduling the exam.
3. Pay the $585 exam fee in person via money order at the Central Cashier (280 Broadway, 1st Floor).
4. Submit the completed LIC41 form along with the payment receipt by drop-off or mail to:
