The site safety requirements outlined in the 2022 Construction Codes will apply to major building site safety projects that have not submitted their site safety plans to the Department of Buildings by November 7, 2022.
*A major building is defined as an existing or proposed structure that is 10 or more stories tall, reaches a height of 125 feet or more, or has a building footprint of 100,000 square feet or more, regardless of its height. *
Required Site Safety Personnel Under the 2022 Construction Codes
**Scope of Work for Major Buildings:**
- **New Building:** Requires a Construction Superintendent and a Site Safety Manager or Site Safety Coordinator.
- **Vertical or Horizontal Enlargements:** Requires a Construction Superintendent and a Site Safety Manager or Site Safety Coordinator.
- **Full or Partial Demolition Work:** Requires a Construction Superintendent and a Site Safety Manager or Site Safety Coordinator.
- **Partial Demolition Limited to Interior Components Using Handheld Tools:** Requires a Construction Superintendent only.
- **Alteration or Demolition of More than 50% of Gross Floor Area:** Requires a Construction Superintendent only.
- **Work Involving Removal of One or More Floors:** Requires a Construction Superintendent only.
- **Underpinning Work:** Requires a Construction Superintendent only.
- **Protection of Excavation Sides:** Requires a Construction Superintendent only.
- **Façade Work:** Requires a Site Safety Manager or Site Safety Coordinator.
